Busselton was a nothing place really, we drove for a short distance beside the beach, parked near the markets, had a coffee then walked for a short distance along the very long pier. After quickly browsing the markets, we left and drove on the beach road towards Bunbury. It is the third biggest city in WA with a population of 80,000. Drove around the beach, up and down a couple of hills viewing huge houses. The city centre streets are narrow but beautiful. Lots of old buildings. We think people commute to Perth because the railway station is huge and new with lots of parking. Heading north, we tried to stay on the coast road, but found ourselves on the express way. Road signage is poor. Everywhere we have been has a 15k sign to town!!! Same distance as from Bargara to Bundaberg,
Arum lilies abound. A pest. We had lunch at Proston beach, 10 kms off the road. a popular Father's Day venue. Onto Fremamtle where every father in the state was visiting!!!! After paying to park we walked along the docks, saw a modern day sailing ship that takes day trippers around the bay. After paying a visit to the loo at the Maritime Museum, we drove here there and everywhere to find a motel. No luck, so onto Perth on a busy narrow road towards the airport as we want to be near the airport for our early departure on Tuesday.
We booked into what seemed to be a reasonable motel on the Eastern Expressway. After carting cases and "stuff" down six steps onto a room and turning on the antiquated air conditioner that bashed and crashed, I went to the office and asked for a refund which was given. $139 a night, plus a $50 bond, plus wifi would have cost $3 for half hour!!! Drove next door to the Great Eastern Motor Lodge. Lovely room, quiet air con, but the wi fi is down!!!!!
Drove two blocks to an IGA, got some frozen tucker which we heated in the microwave. Tomorrow we will drive 10 minutes into the city, have a browse and pay another visit to Kings Park.
